My daughter loves The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. We have read it so many times she knows the book by heart. I have your typical rambunctious can't sit still, must be making faces at someone child. This book is one of the only books she has sat still for and asked to be read and re-read over and over. Mr. Silverstein has really touched the heart of children and parents alike when he gives the tree the persona of a parent. Always willing to give, always willing to accept you back.
